IEEE CIS > Membership Benefits
Get Involved in the Society's Life
We are a volunteer-run organization. Every activity and event is organized by members who - without any financial reward - dedicate their efforts, abilities, and
time to the good of the other members, the Society, and the scientific, professional, educational, governmental, and economic communities at large. Why are they
doing all of this? Because there is nothing more rewarding than serving the colleagues and the communities as best as possible and getting back a warm, friendly, and
respectful "Thank you!" from them. If we want, this could always be a way to get to know people better and make new friends and, in turn, to make the whole world
more peaceful and prosperous.
Active people like to be where the action is: they like to be in the center of the action, being part of the action, and creating the action itself. In the field
of Computational Intelligence theory and applications this means to be in CIS and to be active in CIS!
There are many ways to get involved with CIS and to make a mark on your career and the whole field of interest of CIS.

As a Volunteer
Volunteer leadership is vital to the success of our Society. Our volunteers not only provide the technical information that we publish, but they help in the
organization, planning and production of all our periodicals and publications, conferences, technical groups, standards development and local chapters.
You can volunteer, for example, in one or more of the following way, according to your expertise and skills:
- to review papers for our journals and serve on editorial boards,
- to work in technical committees and propose emerging technical topics,
- to organize and help in organizing and running workshops and conferences,
- to review papers for a conference and serve on the corresponding technical
program committees,
- to give seminars, tutorials, and courses,
- to organize and help in organizing and running technical meetings and events in local
chapters,
- to participates in standardization activities,
- to provide technical guidance and assistance to colleagues and students,
- to be in the governing committees and boards of the Society and the IEEE.
While volunteering for simpler tasks, you can easily learn from more experienced colleagues how to deal with more complex and challenging, but more exciting and
rewarding tasks. All senior volunteers will be very happy and honored to show you the ropes to develop your skills for becoming more outstanding and serve even
better the Society and the communities. Effective volunteers will be quickly recognized and will be asked to assume more responsible positions in the Society, up to
be elected President!
